एक छोटे से कसबे में अजय नाम का एक लड़का रहता था। बचपन में ही पिता की मृत्यु हो जाने के कारण परिवार की आर्थिक स्थिति बड़ी दयनीय थी।  अजय की माँ कुछ पढ़ी-लिखी ज़रुर थीं लेकिन उतनी पढाई से नौकरी कहाँ मिलने वाली थी सो घर-घर बर्तन मांज कर और सिलाई-बुनाई का काम करके किसी तरह अपने बच्चे को पढ़ा-लिखा रही थीं। (kids stories)
A boy named Ajay lived in a small town. The financial condition of the family was very pathetic as the father died in childhood. Ajay's mother was definitely educated, but where was she going to get a job with that much education, so she was teaching her child in some way by cleaning utensils from house to house and doing the work of sewing and weaving.( kids stories )
अजय स्वाभाव से थोड़ा शर्मीला था और अक्सर चुप-चाप बैठा रहता था। एक दिन जब वो स्कूल से लौटा तो उसके हाथ में एक लिफाफा था

Ajay was a little shy of nature and often kept quiet. One day when he returned from school, he had an envelope in his hand

उसने माँ को लिफाफा पकड़ाते हुए कहा, “माँ, मास्टर साहब ने तुम्हारे लिए ये चिट्ठी भेजी है, जरा देखो तो इसमें क्या लिखा है?”
He grabbed the envelope to mother and said, "Mother, Master Sir has sent this letter for you, just look what is written in it?"( kids stories )
माँ ने मन ही मन चिट्ठी पढ़ी और मुस्कुरा कर बोलीं, “बेटा, इसमें लिखा है कि आपका बेटा काफी होशियार है।  इस स्कूल के बाकी बच्चों की तुलना में इसका दिमाग बहुत तेज है और हमारे पास इसे पढ़ाने लायक शिक्षक नहीं हैं। इसलिए कल से आप इसे किसी और स्कूल में भेजें। ”
Mother read the letter from her heart and smiled and said, "Son, it says that your son is very clever." He has a much sharper brain than the rest of the children of this school and we do not have teachers to teach him.  So from tomorrow you send him to another school. " kids stories
यह बात सुन कर अजय को स्कूल न जा सकने का दुःख तो हुआ पर साथ ही उसका मन आत्मविश्वास से भर गया कि वो कुछ ख़ास है और उसकी बुद्धि तीव्र है। kids stories
On hearing this, Ajay felt sad for not being able to go to school but at the same time his mind was filled with confidence that he is special and his intellect is sharp.
माँ, ने उसका दाखिला एक अन्य स्कूल में करा दिया kids stories
Mother, got him enrolled in another school
समय बीतने लगा, अजय ने खूब मेहनत से पढाई की, आगे चल कर उसने सिविल सर्विसेज परीक्षा भी पास की और IAS ऑफिसर बन गया। kids stories
As time went on, Ajay studied very hard, later he also passed the civil services examination and became an IAS officer. kids stories
अजय की माँ अब बूढी हो चुकीं थीं, और कई दिनों से बीमार भी चल रही थीं।  एक दिन अचानक उनकी मृत्यु हो गयी।
Ajay's mother was now old, and was also ill for several days. He died suddenly one day.
अजय के लिए ये बहुत बड़ा आघात था। वह बिलख-बिलख कर रो पड़ा । उसे समझ नहीं आ रहा था कि अब अपनी माँ के बिना वो कैसे जियेगा । रोते-रोते ही उसने माँ की पुरानी अलमारी खोली और हाथ में उनकी माला, चश्मा, और अन्य वस्तुएं लेकर चूमने लगा। kids stories
It was a great shock for Ajay. He wept bitterly. He could not understand how he would live without his mother. As soon as he cried, he opened the old wardrobe  of mother and started kissing him with her garland, glasses, and other items in hand. kids stories
उस अलमारी में अजय के पुराने खिलौने, और बचपन के कपड़े तक संभाल कर रखे हुए थे।  अजय एक-एक कर सारी चीजें निकालने लगा और तभी उसकी नज़र एक पुरानी चिट्ठी पर पड़ी। दरअसल, यह वही चिट्ठी थी जो मास्टर साहब ने उसे 18 साल पहले दी थी। kids stories
In that wardrobe Ajay's old toys, and even childhood clothes, were kept. Ajay started removing everything one by one and then his eyes fell on an old letter. Actually, it was the same letter that Master had given him 18 years ago.
नम आँखों से अजय उसे पढने लगा- kids stories
Ajay started reading him with moist eyes-
“आदरणीय अभिभावक,
आपको बताते हुए हमें अफ़सोस हो रहा है कि आपका बेटा अजय पढ़ाई में बेहद कमज़ोर है और खेल-कूद में भी भाग नहीं लेता है। जान पड़ता है कि उम्र के हिसाब से अजय  की बुद्धि विकसित नहीं हो पायी है। अतः हम इसे अपने विद्यालय में पढ़ाने में असमर्थ हैं।
आपसे निवेदन है कि अजय का दाखिला किसी मंद-बुद्धि विद्यालय में कराएं अथवा खुद घर पर रख कर इसे पढाएं।

अजय जानता था कि भले अब उसकी माँ इस दुनिया में नहीं रहीं पर वो जहाँ भी रहें उनकी ममता उनका आशीर्वाद सदा उस पर बना रहेगा!
Ajay knew that even though his mother was no longer in this world, But wherever she lives, her blessings will always be on him! ( kids stories )

माँ से बढ़कर त्याग और तपस्या की मूरत भला और कौन हो सकता है ? हम पढ़-लिख लें, बड़े हो कर कुछ बन जाएं इसके लिए वो चुपचाप ना जाने कितनी कुर्बानियां देती है। अपनी ज़रूरतें मार कर हमारे शौक पूरा करती है। यहाँ तक कि संतान बुरा व्यवहार करे तो भी माँ उसका भला ही सोचती है! सचमुच, माँ जैसा कोई नहीं हो सकता! Who can be better than mother for sacrifice and penance? We read and write, grow up to be something For this, she silently makes so many sacrifices. Mother fulfills our hobbies by killing her needs. Even if the child behaves badly, the mother thinks well of him! No one in this world can be like a mother. Read this also.
